  7. entury AD, with figures and inscriptions that served to identify the various offices, are of extraordinary interest. The square was used by traders from Libya, who exported ivory and animals for the circus games, Carthage, Syllectum in Tunisia, Narbonne 
  8. in Gaul, and Cagliari in Sardinia. There were also offices for representatives of the wine, timber, and rope trades. Statues in honor of people linked with commerce were erected all over the square, in the middle of which Domitian had had a temple built.
